The carousel at the NYS Museum is open again after being closed for repairs!

The New York State Museum posted on their Facebook page on June 1, 2023:

“Saddle, up! The NYSM Carousel is Open!
The Museum’s Herschell-Spillman Carousel is much more than just an amusement ride, it is also an historic artifact, dating to c. 1915. It’s only one of two dozen antique wooden carousels left in the state of New York. The animals, made by Brooklyn-based carver Charles W.F. Dare, pre-date the carousel to c. 1895.

The vintage carousel was first restored and installed here in 2001. Since then, our staff and historic carousel experts have been dedicated to preserving this valuable piece of state history. Most recently, the carousel received lots of TLC in the form of repairs, maintenance, and upgrades including repairs made to the center pole bearings, installation of new hardware to replace aging parts, and the replacement of over 700 incandescent light bulbs with new, energy-efficient LED bulbs.
We hope you and generations to come will enjoy this historic ride!
