There are TONS of great programs happening at local libraries the last week of June to kick off summer reading! Below are just a few of the events happening. Make sure to check your local library’s website to find out what events are happening to kick off summer reading and throughout the summer!

 

Ice Cream for Lunch – Albany Public Library (Bach Branch)
Friday, June 23 at Noon
Stop by after school and sign up for Summer Reading. Then stay for ice cream for lunch! Free ice cream while supplies last.

Summer Reading Kickoff: All Together Now
Friday, June 23, 2023 from 2pm-4pm
Join us on the Green for crafts, snacks and music, and sign up the whole family for Summer Reading 2023. Musical entertainment from 2-3pm with local rock band GB-Five.

Centennial Summer Celebration – Albany Public Library (Delaware Branch)
Saturday, June 24, 2023
Celebrate summer reading and APL’s Centennial summer! All are welcome to this free family outdoor party. Planned events include:

  • Live music by local group Yankee Holler.
  • Kids activities — balloon twisting, face painting, crafts, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and hula hoop.
  • Live owl show from the Southern Vermont Museum. 
  • Summer Reading sign up. Participants read this summer to earn prizes.
  • Centennial Challenge booklets, which include library-related activities participants complete to earn points toward a special collector’s edition Centennial-themed prize.
  • Light refreshments.

Summer Reading Kickoff Carnival at the Colonie Library

Start your summer at our Kickoff Carnival and sign up for our summer reading challenge on Day One!! We’ll have a bounce house, carnival games, farm animals, a DJ, balloon artistry, relay races…

Summer Reading Kickoff! Hosted by the East Greenbush Community Library (Location: Genet Elementary School auditorium)
Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 2pm
You’ve seen him on America’s Got Talent, Jimmy Fallon, and Penn & Teller: Fool Us! Illusionist Leon Etienne rocks venues around the world with his jaw-dropping, critically acclaimed hit show, Magic Rocks! Witness this family friendly spectacular featuring the world’s best illusions, award-winning sleight of hand, and hilarious comedy, in an immersive experience that brings joy, laughter, and wonder when the world needs it most! Teens, tweens, and kids of all ages are invited to the Summer Reading Kickoff! Illusionist Leon Etienne will bring an all-ages family magic show to life at the Genet Elementary School auditorium. While you’re there, you can learn about our summer reading challenge, and opportunities to earn fun prizes this summer!
