How long have you lived in the Capital District?
I am originally from Saratoga Springs, NY so I have lived in the Capital District most of my life, with the exception of my college years!
How many children do you have?
I have 1 child, a 19 month old little girl named Penelope. My husband I waited along time to have her, so she has been such a blessing for us! Everyday is a new and exciting adventure for the 3 of us.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
One thing about me that most people don’t know is that I love crafting! Most people know my love for my work and sports and fitness activity. They don’t know I also love scrapbooking, jewelry making, paper cutting. Anything to do with crafting. My husband even built a craft room in our home!
What is your favorite thing to do with your daughter?
One of my favorite things to do with my daughter is read. My husband and I have been reading with her since the day we brought her home. I am a big reader and wanted to share that with her. She loves books and it make great snuggle and bonding time at the end of a long day.
Where is your favorite place to go out to dinner in the Capital District?
My husband and I are foodies so we eat out at least once a week with our daughter and usually we have our parents or friends with us. We eat out mainly at restaurants in downtown Saratoga. Penelope has been coming with us since she was a newborn, so thankfully she is typically well behaved in restaurants. We will go anywhere from Triangle Diner and Hattie’s to Morton’s and Prime! We love all food!
Do you have any pets?
I am a housecall veterinarian so I have several pets! I have 2 dogs (both rescue mixes), 2 cats, and a talking parrot. They have all adjusted well to life with a toddler and she calls them all by name and loves to feed them in the evening. She even scoops the food and pours it in the bowls for them and then yells for them to eat! She gives the bird a peanut every day as a treat.
Where did you go to college?
I went to undergrad at St. John Fisher college in Rochester, NY with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I then went to St. George’s School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada. It’s in the West Indies off the coast of Venezuela. I finished my clinical year at University of Georgia in Athens, GA. I hope to bring my husband and daughter to visit Grenada when she is older, so they can experience the island I lived on for 3 years! I miss the year round warm weather and the ocean.
Tell us a little bit about your business and how you got started.
I own a mobile veterinary business called Capital District Mobile Veterinary Services. I started my business 6 years ago. I was working in a private practice in Albany, NY prior. It’s a goal of most veterinarians to one day become a business owner, but with rising costs of student loans, the overhead can be too expensive. Mobile veterinarians were becoming popular in big cities, and it’s a way to reduce overhead, so I started in May 2013 and it’s been a huge success! I love helping animals, but I also enjoy the interactions with my clients. Coming into the home creates a much more personal experience and myself and my technician become attached not only to the pets but their families as well!
