Meet a Mom: Dr. Kristina Gallo | Capital District Moms

Where are you originally from? How long have you lived in the Capital District? What brought you to the Capital District?
I have lived in the Capital District for 10 years now. I am originally from Long Island, NY. My husband began working in an oral surgery practice here in Albany and together we realized this was a place we wanted to stay and raise our family.

How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have three fun and spunky children. I love the age range between them because each age is unique. A little girl that is three, a little guy that is 7 and a soon to be 10-year-old!

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?
Seeing the world through my children’s eyes is one of my favorite things about being a mom. When they see something for the first time and their eyes sparkle and they get excited about things like the tooth fairy or the first day of school, and the unconditional love they show just melts my heart.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I had to experience having one of my littles being born with a medical issue. Going through that experience changed me as a person and my outlook on life…all for the better. I can truly empathize and sympathize with families struggling with a sick child.

Where is your favorite place to go as a family in the Capital District?
In the summer we love going to Grafton State Park. In the fall we love going to all the apple orchards and in the winter, we love to be home and cozy!

Where is your favorite place to go out to dinner in the Capital District?
We love Café Italia. It is like going to someone’s home for dinner. We love that it is a smaller place and a family-run business. The delicious food is the bonus!

What is one piece of advice that you would pass along to other moms?
“Momming” is tough, even though it is so rewarding. Each day brings new challenges. Surround yourself with a tribe, reach out for help when you need it. That is one thing I truly love about this area, friends become like family.

When did Southwoods Pediatric Dentistry open? Has there been any major updates since the office opened?
We just had our 3-year anniversary! I started the office from scratch and built out a new office space. I love to keep adding cute new additions to the office. I also keep up on all the latest dental technology. We are also in the process of adding another room for our new patients.

What is the recommended age for a child to schedule their first dental appointment?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends having your child seen by age one, or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting.
