
BlueShield of Northeastern New York presents February Fun in 2021, a week-long series of free, virtual field trips and activities for families to enjoy during Winter Break from Monday, Feb. 15 through Friday, Feb. 19, 2021. BlueShield of Northeastern New York tapped into its most-beloved community partners to host the series, including the Capital District YMCA, MiSci (Museum of Innovation & Science), and the Tri-City ValleyCats. MiSci Museum of Innovation & Science Rosie Revere: Engineer 10—11 a.m. |
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the science of engineering through an engaging story, Rosie Revere: Engineer, and build their own flying machine to test and improve its performance. *Best for grades K-2

MiSci Museum of Innovation & Science Engineering Mission 11 a.m. —12 p.m. |
As part of the Engineering Mission, participants will design, build, test, and redesign a shock-absorbing system that protects two marshmallow “astronauts” while they land on the moon. *Best for grades 3-8

MiSci Museum of Innovation & Science Crime Lab Science |
Participants will learn about forensic science and how evolving technology helps scientists and detectives discover the truth about mysterious criminal cases. “Detectives in training” will participate in a mock investigation where they identify the main types of fingerprints, explore the science of chromatography, learn about DNA and how use all the evidence to identify the culprit. *Best for grades 3-8

Tuesday, Feb. 16 | MiSci Museum of Innovation & Science Fun with Physics 11 a.m. —12 p.m. |
Physics is everywhere, even when we play! Participants will have the opportunity to observe and identify different forces by observing Bernoulli’s principle, falling objects, gyroscopes and more. In the second half of the program, participants create a helicopter toy to illustrate the principles that they have investigated. *Best for grades 3-8

Virtual Trivia 1 p.m. (Grades K-2) and 2:30 p.m. (Grades 3-5) |
Participants will test their knowledge on a variety of topics alongside the Tri-City ValleyCats for an afternoon of virtual trivia from the comfort of their own home. |
Wednesday, Feb. 17 |
Virtual Field Trip: Wild Winter Animals 1—2 p.m. |
Join the Buffalo Zoo for a WILD Winter Animals field trip! How do animals prepare for the winter and seasonal changes? The Buffalo Zoo will explain how they observe animals and explore clever winter survival strategies such as migration, hibernation, and other amazing adaptations. |

Reading with Rio: The ABC’s of Black History |
New York Times Best Selling Author Rio Cortez will read participants The ABC’s of Black History during Storytime presented by Monkey See, Monkey Do children’s bookstore. |
