7th Annual Albany Lantern Parade | Capital District Moms
The Albany Lantern Parade is at 4:30pm on Sunday, November 6, 2022. It is a simple celebration of light and community as people gather at sunset to walk with handmade lanterns in Washington Park. This event is free, accessible, and all are welcome.

Follow the Washington Park Conservancy on Facebook for more information.

There are a million ways that you can create a lantern at home with your child. Below is how I made a simple lantern with my son.

An empty soda bottle

Tissue Paper

1 Pipe Cleaner

Hole punch

1 Flameless Candle

  1. Cut the top off of the soda bottle
  2. Punch one hole on each side of the top of the soda bottle for the handle (the pipe cleaner)
  3. Attach the pipe cleaner for the handle by putting it through the holes and twisting it around the bottle
  4. Decorate the outside of soda bottle with tissue paper (use glue)
  5. Place the flameless candle in the lantern and have fun!
